Aircraft - Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet
Heller's Me 163 Komet - 1/72 scale. Build OOB and painted with Humbrol enamels.
The idea for development of a rocket propelled aircraft originates in the 1930's and was lead by Dr. Alexander Lippish. The first prototype flew in 1941 and was launched on a trolly, which was ejected immediately after take off. Since the aircraft carried fuel for only 12 minutes it spend the majority of the flight as a glider. The highly explosive rocket fuel caused many aircraft to explode during take off and landing. The first production models were launched in may 1944.
